Project Business - DeltaMOOCx Online Education Project

To bridge the urban-rural education gap, the Delta Electronics Foundation partnered with ELTA Technology in 2014 to produce a series of high-definition online learning courses.

The collaboration covers six core subjects required by senior high and vocational schools - mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, and electrical/electronic engineering - as well as university-level automation courses. All content strictly follows the national curriculum guidelines and has been reviewed and approved by the National Academy for Educational Research (NAER) to ensure accuracy and teaching quality. This initiative marks Taiwan's first digital learning project jointly developed by industry, government, and academia.

Over the course of the partnership, ELTA produced more than 8,000 videos, totaling over 700 hours of high-quality educational content. Studio-based lessons were recorded in ELTA's professional HD studios, while outdoor lessons were filmed on location, setting a new benchmark for digital course production in Taiwan.

All courses are available free of charge on the DeltaMOOCx platform and YouTube channel, enabling learners nationwide to access quality education anytime, anywhere. Through digital learning, this project aims to enhance learning outcomes, reduce regional disparities, narrow the gap between education and industry, and nurture future talent for a better society.

Production Model for Educational Projects

To align with each course's unique content and characteristics, ELTA combines studio and on-location filming to create diverse learning perspectives and immersive educational experiences. This approach allows students to truly understand and apply knowledge through dynamic, context-based instruction.

Studio Production: Diverse Visual Experiences

Each course unit is designed with a variety of in-studio recording methods to enhance engagement and comprehension. Through live demonstrations, scenario reenactments, and visual effects, abstract academic concepts are made tangible and easier to grasp.

In mathematics courses, teachers are transformed into lively characters, guiding students through playful, game-based learning activities that make complex ideas more accessible. For physics and chemistry, real experiments are combined with animated sequences to illustrate microscopic processes, helping students gain a deeper, more comprehensive understanding of theoretical principles. This multi-format design not only makes learning more engaging but also strengthens the practical application of knowledge.

On-Location Filming: Competency-Based Learning in Action

To meet the needs of different subjects, outdoor field shoots are incorporated to bring real-world learning experiences beyond the confines of the studio. This competency-oriented teaching approach allows students to experience knowledge in authentic contexts, bridging theory and practice. By learning in real environments, students gain a stronger grasp of theoretical concepts and develop essential problem-solving skills that prepare them for real-world challenges.

Creative Curriculum Design by Subject

Mathematics
To spark students' interest in learning, the teacher transforms into “Super Mario” and guides learners through interactive challenges. By incorporating dialogue and scenes inspired by popular historical dramas, abstract mathematical formulas are brought to life through dramatized storytelling - making learning more engaging and helping students grasp concepts with ease.

Biology
The course emphasizes hands-on ecological observation, featuring field trips for collecting and studying plants and animals. Through high-resolution close-ups and underwater footage, students witness the wonders of biology in their natural habitats. For example, during intertidal zone explorations, students observe marine organisms and their ecological interactions, gaining insights into each species' role in the ecosystem. This immersive learning experience deepens their appreciation of biodiversity and nurtures curiosity, observation skills, and scientific literacy.

Physics and Chemistry
These lessons focus on experimentation and observation, guiding students step by step through scientific processes. Each experiment - from setup to result - is clearly demonstrated and explained, allowing learners to understand the principles behind every reaction. For instance, chemistry demonstrations include proper use of laboratory instruments and real-time analysis of reactions, enhanced by HD close-ups capturing fine details like precipitate formation or bubble generation. This approach bridges theory and practice, helping students not only memorize scientific laws but truly understand them through hands-on experience.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering
These courses highlight practical operation and measurement skills. Instructors demonstrate the correct use of instruments and tools, and show how theoretical knowledge applies to real-life scenarios. This hands-on approach moves learning beyond rote memorization, enabling students to develop problem-solving abilities and real-world technical competence.

Earth Science
Students explore natural phenomena such as volcanic eruptions, atmospheric circulation, and crustal movement through vivid simulations. Immersive visual effects allow learners to experience the power of Earth's dynamic systems - from virtual volcanic explosions to plate tectonic shifts. These realistic depictions not only make abstract concepts tangible but also foster a sense of wonder and respect for nature.

Project Outcomes

During the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2021, Taiwan implemented full-scale online learning nationwide. To support teachers and students during this transition, the Ministry of Education integrated the DeltaMOOCx platform with Adaptive Learning for senior high schools and vocational institutions, ensuring that learning continued without interruption - a collaboration that received wide recognition and positive feedback.

In 2021, the Delta Electronics Foundation published two comprehensive volumes documenting the initiative's achievements:

  • "New Horizons in Online Learning - University Edition: DeltaMOOCx's Commitment to Cultivating Automation Talent"
  • "New Horizons in Online Learning - High School Edition: DeltaMOOCx's Development of STEM Courses for Senior High and Vocational Schools."

These books detail the planning, implementation, management, and impact of the DeltaMOOCx project. Through interviews with teachers and students, the publications highlight first-hand experiences in digital course production, online teaching, and learning outcomes. They also explore the platform’s operation and the broader implications of online learning for the future of higher and secondary education, providing actionable recommendations for integrating MOOCs into formal education.

As a key production partner, ELTA TV contributed its professional insights on digital course recording and production techniques, helping educators enhance the quality of their online content. Through these efforts, the project aims to inspire public and private sectors to recognize the transformative potential of online education, encourage more talented educators to participate, and jointly advance Taiwan’s digital transformation in education.
